April, 2007 Dear Newman Students and Friends of the Newman Catholic Center, This spring quarter/semester we are celebrating the Easter Season. It is a time to for new life and renewal. It is a time to have endless joy because we remember Jesus’ resurrection, which tells us that the Reign of God is attainable here on earth. We are called to be hopeful people despite the difficulties in the world. We are called to work at bringing the peace and justice to this world as best as we can: finding ways to build relationships among diverse people and to seek a common ground. It is our way to continue the mission of Jesus in our world today. Thanks for reading my little sermon and now I wish to let you know that this transition year so far has been a learning experience for me and all who have been involved with the Newman Center. Thanks to all who have been very supportive. I appreciate all who have attended our Benefit Dinner in January. It was an enjoyable event and the words of encouragement at the event have been greatly appreciated. I personally want to thank Fr. James Graham and Fr. Dave Schuyler, SM who have been wonder presiders at Newman Sunday Masses at the UCSC Cowell Health Center. This April Newman will be starting a process of pastoral planning. It will involve consulting the students in hopes of looking at their needs and to respond in ways that would make the Newman experience a better one for them. It is a beginning and hopefully we will have a plan that will be satisfactory for all involved. As we do this pastoral planning we will continue to provide the services necessary for the ongoing mission of the Newman Center. Again thank you for your support and prayers. I wish to extend my and the Newman Associates’ thoughts and best wishes as we move through the Easter Season this quarter/semester.
